Hunsrüker Weisse Pole Bean
Phaseolus vulgaris
No Pennsylvania Dutch kitchen garden was complete without this robust 18 th century white pole bean which produces huge quantities of long “caseknife” shaped pods. The young beans are used as snap beans while the white dry beans are cooked in soup, stuffings, or casseroles. 10-to-12-foot vines require poles or trellising. This bean originated in Sulzbach bei Rheumen in the western Pfalz and was brought to America by Palatine settlers. Rare! 25 seeds
