Blue Shackamaxon Pole Bean

Phaseolus vulgaris

Featured in Dr. Weaver’s Heirloom Vegetable Gardening, Blue Shackamaxon is one of the oldest of the Lenape ceremonial beans tracing to pre-colonial times. It was saved by Quaker farmers in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in part due to its association with William Penn and his treaty with the Indians.  The pods ripen red and produce blue beans when unripe, blue-black seeds when fully dry.  Pink flowers on 4 -foot vines ideal for growing on short corn.  25 seeds. BN127
