Colonial Liver Bean Phaseolus vulgaris

This rare English pole bean was acquired from the late Mary Larkin Thomas in 1977. Mary was a Quaker collector of heirloom seeds. She acquired it from her grandmother, Rebecca Hallowell. The bean is mentioned several times in Mawe & Abercrombie’s Every Man His Own Gardener (1778) and was grown both as a snap bean and as a dry bean.  It takes its name from the raw liver color of the seeds.  25 seeds. Germination 96%.  LOT RD023-BN166.
