Cypriot Drought-Resistant Watermelon Citrullus lanatus
The Greek Cypriot name for this now-rare watermelon is pastiha kypriaki anidri, which means drought resistant, requiring little irrigation. Its thin, black-green skin makes a striking contrast against the intensely red, sweet flesh. No longer seen in Cypriot markets, we obtained seed from the last grower in 1996. Most of the melons are small, weighing 4 to 10 pounds. 20 seeds $4.00
