Cucurbita moschata
Roughwood acquired our seed directly from Martinique in 1999 as part of our search for Afro-Caribbean food plants formerly grown in colonial Philadelphia. This remarkable soup pumpkin traces to the Tupi peoples of coastal Brazil but has become thoroughly integrated into the pepperpot cookery of the Caribbean. The plants produce 10 to 20 foot vines with mostly round mottled fruit that ripens yellow-orange. The male flowers are very large and ideal for stuffing and the young shoots can be cooked like greens.
~25 seeds per packet.
