Mother Corn (Speckled Sweet Corn)

Zea mays

This rare multi-colored sweet corn was preserved among a small band of Iowa Delawares and Shawnee. Walton Galinat, Waltham, Massachusetts corn expert, collected seeds from this group in the 1950s although the corn was known locally in the late 1800s.  Its earlier history is not well documented.  It was used as a parching corn among the Iowa Mennonites. 100-120 days (50-60 days for sweet corn). 100 seeds,   Germination 94%.    LOTTK023-GRA062.
