Pierce Lester Groundcherry

This is a recent addition to the Seed Collection but doubtless a culinary treasure. We know nothing about Pierce Lester who appears to be the savior of this rare golden-yellow groundcherry, but we can attest that it is probably one of the best. The complex flavor is rich and fruity and starts out with a hint of butter. While we champion New Hanover for its tomato-like flavor and Aunt Molly for its orange overtones, these three are the groundcherry classics in rural Pennsylvania Dutch cookery. This variety sprawls across the ground so keep careful watch that the voles, chipmunks, and mice don’t beat you to the harvest!  Minimum of 20 seeds.
