Speckled Lettuce Improved (Laitue Sanguine Ameliore)

Lactuca sativa  This is a cold-tolerant 18th century speckled French variety originally called Sanguine Flagellée as mentioned by Vilmorin and Pirolle in the early 1820s.  It is closely related to several speckled varieties known to early Pennsylvania Dutch farmers but was reintroduced commercially in 1906 by C. C. Morse under the name Strawberry Cabbage Lettuce.  Visually appealing, heads will develop from 9 to 10 inches in diameter.  Min. 50 seeds. Germ. 95%. Packed in 2022. Lot RW2022LSA LET069
