Yellow Custard Squash Cucurbita pepo
This is yet another one of those rare maycocks grown by the Eastern Woodland Algonquian peoples. In the region of Lenepehocking (land of the Lenape), it was grown by the Unami of South Jersey, but was probably more widespread. Depicted by Duschesne in the 1770s, the older forms appear to be taller than the modern descendants. In culinary terms, this summer squash lives up to its colonial name. 25 seeds $5.00. Germination 94%. Packed for 2024. LOTDG2023-CUC049.
